Artist Statement

For this project we were assigned two words, galactic and tiny. Galactic stands for numerous things. To start off it has a major role in astronomy, it also means huge or vast. When thinking of galactic the initial response is space such as a galaxy. The next word is tiny, which means that someone or something is very small and little.
The first reaction was to go out and photograph subjects that were both huge and tiny. When looking at what is being photographed, it just seemed too simple to go out and capture objects that fit to the word. In the end the decision was to relate each word to each other. Such as picking a subject, photographing it as a whole, suggesting the galactic view. Next focusing on all the details of that create the subject. For example, a building has numerous levels that extend up into the sky. A person standing next to it would have to step far back or look up to see the extent of the building. What people don’t really think about is the material it took to build this massive structure. So going in and photograph the small but very important detail. A new view to how things are created.
The main goal is to show that anything huge/galactic is consumed with great amounts of tiny details that create such a beautiful view.
